About Ourania Paxinos, Kalatzis
Ourania, who was my Nona Eleni's sister, got married to Kosta Romai. Apparently, without telling his wife he bound a steamer for America. When she went around asking where he was she was told he left for America. Ourania immediately packed her bags and left for Athens to catch up with Barba Kosta. You can bet she caught up with him and that was the last time he tried to escape! I was told this story by George Goulis and his wife Nina. After Ourania died Barba Kosta lived with my parents on Buchanan Street. He died a few years after Elaine was born. Elaine remembers a story our Mother told her about how she imitated his cough as a baby.
Thia Ourania was very important to the Paxinos family. She took care of every Paxinos that came to America in that first wave. She housed the women until they were married and cared for the single men. I believe that the majority of photos that my Mother had came from Thia Ourania. Thio Spiro may have also contributed to this stack of photos.
She did not have any children. Her name is spelled Urania Romais in the 1930 US Federal Census forms.

Second cousin George Paxinos sent me Ourania's birth certificate - in the documents section. Second cousin one removed Effie Kangis translated it:
No. 34; Birth of Ourania Paxinou, daughter of Nikolaos.
Ithaca. In the village of Lefki in the Prefecture of Polyktorion.
Today the 20th of July of 1869, has appeared in front of me, the Vicar of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, Mr Nikolaos G Paxinos, who presented a female child, declaring that it was born of him and of his wife Angelo Palmou daughter of Odysseus, on 7th May 1869. The said child was Baptised Ourania by Pinio Panagi Paxinos, the Godmother, resident of Lefki. The present was drafted and signed by us, the parents and the witnesses.
The parents: father: Nikolaos G Paxinos; mother illiterate.
Winesses: Dimitrios Sfiris; Nikolaos Davias.
The Vicar: Rev. Spyridon Akakios.
