Went to Argentina as a child with his parents and a grooup of Boers who "trekked". Returned to SA with his mother and siblings. Went to live with aunt and uncle and first cousin on farm near Ladybrand, OFS. Grew up on farm. Went to Marist Bros College, Bloemfontein. Went into motor trade - had a temendous affinity for motors. Joined up and did an engineering officers course. Served in N. Africa, desert in the SA Airforce. He was also a pilot, and trained other pilots at Baragwanath Air Base, outside JHB. Married Gladys Mooney and she died. Married Dorothy during the war (1942) and after the war they went to live in Kenya. Was the manager of McGregor Oates, car dealership in Nairobi. He had his own business selling motor cars. Returned to SA in 1950. Lived in JHB, then Durban. Worked for Durban Corporation as an engineer. Retired abouttt 1964/5. Died in 1970 from cancer of the lungs.
