About Pelagie Chouteau
Pelagie Kiercereau, daughter of Paul Gregoire Kiercereau and Marie-Josephe (nee Michel dit Tayon).
First wife of Jean Pierre Chouteau, the son of St. Louis founder Pierre Laclede and Madame Chouteau. She was said to have been "orphaned" by age 5, which would confirm her father, Paul, died in 1772.)
Note that the original spelling of the name was Kierecereau, but also referenced as often with the spelling of Kiersereau for those researching this early St. Louis family.
