About PFC Armand R Beauchamp
Pfc Armand R. Beauchamp enlisted at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas on 22 August 1942.
He was graduated from the Alamogordo high school in 1938 and graduated from Harden-Simmons University, Abilene four years later. He was a former HSU tennis player and a member of the celebrated H-S Cowboy band, playing the cornet. He majored in history. Pfc Beauchamp trained at Fort Benning and other U.S. Training camps. He served overseas 13 months.
On 15 september 1943 he arrived in Liverpool (GB). After more training he was dropped at Normandy on D-Day. He survived and was sent back to GB for recovery. In September 1944 he was one of the many paratroopers in Operation Market Garden. He was killed in action near Opheusden NL, on the night of 6/7 October 1944, when a mortar round scored a near direct hit on his foxhole.
