PFC Clovis Clayton Basden, son of Oscar J. and Ella Jane Eubank Basden of Paris, Lamar County, TX, was killed in action in Germany with an infantry unit, April 14, 1945. His wife, living at I005 16th SE (Paris, TX), has been notified by the War Department. He was previously reported missing on that date, April 14th. He attended East Paris (Grade) School and was graduated from Paris High School. He married Miss Jessie Oleta Pendergrass of Jennings, Jan. 20, 1940. He was employed at Rodgers-Wade Furniture Co. factory before entering service, March, 194(?). He trained at Camp Wolters, near Mineral Wells (TX) before going overseas with the 119th Infantry, 30th Division. Private Basden received the Bronze Star medal for heroic achievement in action in Germany, Nov. 26, 1944, the Purple Heart medal and wore the Combat Infantryman Badge. He is buried in Plot D, Row 19, Grave 14 at the Netherlands American Cemetery, in Margraten, Netherlands.
