About PFC Ottis Cleveland "Bob" Dillehay
Bob Dillehay Mr. Bob Dillehay, a retired farmer of the Difficult Community, died at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday afternoon September 21, 2016 at the age of 96 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro. Mr. Dillehay had made his home there since August 29, 2012 suffering from dementia. Saturday afternoon September 24th funeral services were conducted from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Mr. Dillehay's pastor, Eld. Jeff Patterson, officiated and burial followed in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens. The fifth of eight children born to the late Willie Herbert Dillehay who died in 1970 at the age of 80 and Letha Bell Anderson Dillehay who died in 1928 at the age of 37, he was born Ottis Cleveland Dillehay in the Defeated Creek Community on October 27, 1919. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. They were Osa Donoho Dillehay Kemp who died February 22, 2001 at the age of 90, Nora Mildred Dillehay Petty who died May 1, 2003 at the age of 88, Florence Helen Dillehay Nixon who died January 23, 2009 at the age of 87, Myrian Beatrice Dillehay Wilmore Hire who died August 26, 2008 at the age of 84, Doyle Granville Dillehay who died February 22, 1997 at the age of 84 and Lutrell Dillehay who died April 6, 2000 at the age of 83. A sudden and unexpected death on August 17, 2011 was the death of his only son, Stanley Royce Dillehay, who died at the age of 59 on August 17, 2011. Mr. Bob's wife and the mother of their three children, Cartwright Community native Reba Lois Donoho Dillehay, died at the age of 36 on October 27, 1959. Mr. Dillehay was a faithful and dedicated member of the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church at Defeated Creek where he attended every time the doors were opened as long as his health permitted. Mr. Dillehay faithfully and dutifully served our country during World War II with the United States Army having entered service at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia and was honorably discharged at Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky on December 2, 1942 with the rank of Private First Class and a character rated as excellent. Surviving are his two daughters, Beverly Dillehay Dennis and husband Jimmy of the Tanglewood Community, Melanie Dillehay Smith and husband Jimmy of the Difficult Community; daughter-in-law, Geneil Hailey Dillehay also of the Difficult Community; his only surviving sibling, a sister, Electa Pearl Dillehay Anderson of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Scotty, Bobby and Andy Dennis, Brian Smith, Becky Dillehay Jeffrey; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The Dillehay family requests memorials to the Jordan Hackett Foundation.
