About PFC Robert Franklin McCue

Franklin McCue was born June 17, 1925, at Liberty and moved with his family to Beatrice at the age of two months. He joined the Presbyterian church on Easter in 1937, was graduated from Beatrice high school in May, 1943, and was inducted into the army in September, 1943. He received his basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Ga.
Pfc. McCue was in the army specialized training program at Heidelberg college, Tiffin, O., until the program was closed Mar. 18, 1944, when he was activated and sent to Camp Swift, Tex. Here he was assined to a rifle company in the 102nd division. One June 25, 1944, the division was moved to the staging area at Fort Dix, N.J. While there it was sent to Philadelphia during the street car strike. The 102nd Division sailed in September and landed at Cherbourg, France.
After three weeks in Normandy the 102nd division was assigned to the Ninth army. By box car it was moved through Belgium and Holland and into Germany the first of November, where it fought through the Siegfried line to the Roer river. McCue served as first scout for his squad until he was made platoon runner in December.
He was awarded these badges: Expert Rifleman, Expert Infantryman and Compat Infantryman.
On Feb. 23 at two a.m. the 102nd division moved across the Roer. On Feb. 25 Pfc. McCue was killed in action in Germany.
Pfc. Robert McCue was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.G. McCue of 1601 High street.
A brother, Lt. Glenn McCue, is also with the Ninth Army, but in the 83rd division. Bob was in the 102nd division.
