About PVT Samuel Landis Bauer
Samuel Bower was born Aug. 6, 1746, and he is buried at Hereford Mennonite Meeting House. He was a farmer in Douglass township, Montgomery county. His wife was Elizabeth Ziegler. and they had children as follows: Susanna, Barbara, Deborah, John, Elizabeth, Samuel, Hannah, Andrew and Christopher.
According to the Lancaster Mennonite Vital Records (quoting several sources) his parents were Samuel Bauer and Barbara Landis. Dr, Elmer E. S. Johnson secured parchment deeds. One of which: of February 23, 1768, Samuel Bower Junior (being a son of Samuel Bauer Senior, late of Colebrookdale Twp.,,, the widow of Samuel Bauer Senior, Barbara. )
According to the PA and NJ and Town Records Bauer/Boyer/Moyer Genealogies, his father "may have been", Michael; however, this has been disproven by Mr. & Mrs. L. O. Weis.
age 76/3/12
Find A Grave contributor Walter Burkhard Bauer has made a suggestion Their suggestion:
Hi,
I would like to suggest that you correct the names of the parents for Samuel L. Bauer (1746-1822), from Michael and Veronica L. Bauer to Samuel and Barbara L. Bauer. For many years it was thought that the former couple was Samuel L. Bauer's parents, but this was corrected by research of Lister O. Weiss in his book about this Bauer family entitled "Trail of the Pioneers." Weiss proved through court records that Samuel L. Bauer's parents were Samuel Bauer (1708-1762) and Barbara Landis Bauer (1722-1800). this mix-up occurred possibly because Michael and Veronica L. Bauer were a younger brother and sister to Samuel and Barbara L. Bauer. It was an occurrence where Bauer brothers married Landis sisters.
And unfortunately, there are no grave markers for Samuel Bauer (1708-1762) and Barbara L. Bauer (1722-1800). In fact, it is not certain as to where this couple was buried. It was either at the Bally Mennonite Church cemetery or at the Washington Schwenkfelder cemetery a few miles away.
Samuel L. Bauer and Elizabeth Ziegler Bauer are my third great grandparents.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Sincerely, Walt
