About Panayiotis Demopoulos
Panayiotis "Peter" Demopoulos (1949 - 2002)
Brief overview:
Peter (53), owner of the Potgieter Park Cafe, in Meyer Street, Rietfontein, Pretoria, was shot dead in his eatery on the evening of 9th June 2002, by three robbers, at least one of them armed.
Daughter, Debby, a medical student, said three men entered the café shortly before 20h00 on Saturday night. One allegedly put a R5 coin on the counter and asked for change. "My mother asked my father in Greek whether he knew the men, as she felt uneasy about them. One of the men produced a firearm and shouted at my parents to lie down on the floor," said heartbroken Debby.
Peter's wife, Toulla, dropped to the floor, and while Peter was about to lie down, the robber shot him twice in the chest. He died immediately.
