Patience was Patience Kemp, daughter of Elizabeth Partridge through her first husband, William Kemp.
This situation is addressed in summary form here: WHO IS PATIENCE KEMP AND WHAT IS HER HERITAGE? NEHGR, Vol 57, 1903, Pg 416-7:
"Partridge - Kemp - Thacher - Seabury. Elizabeth, daughter of the Rev. Ralph Partidge of Duxbury, was married first to William Kemp, who was of Duxbury, Jan 7, 1638/9; proposed freeman March 5, of the same year; and who died before Nov 2, 1641, when his widow Elizabeth was granted adminstration on his estate. By her first husband, William Kemp, she had Patience, her eldest daughter, who, November 16, 1660 (town record), was married to Samuel Seabury, physcian, of Duxbury. The widow Elizabeth (Partridge) Kemp was married May 11, 1643, (Thacher's Thacher Fam.) to Thomas Thatcher, physician, and afterwards pastor of Weymouth, being his first wife and the mother of his children. See Plymouth Col. Rec., and, in particular, the grant of land to Samuel Seabury "son-in-law" of William Kemp; will of Rev. Ralph Partridge, (Register, Vol 47, Pg 279), compare diary of Rev. Peter Thacher (History of Milton, pg 279). A comparison of dates leaves no doubt of this family connection as stated."
And, in much more detail, here:
"The Laying of Two Genealogical Ghosts" - New York Genealogical and Biographical News, Vol 35, 1904, p 101-107. A seven page essay asserting that Patience Kemp was the daughter of William Kemp and Elizabeth Partridge. There was no William Kemp, Jr. or Patience Thacher, thus the term "ghosts".
