About Patrick O'Reilly
Patrick most likely was the second child, born around 1859. There is a gap in available church records for that year, and it seems that's when the family moved to a farm in Tonroe. Patrick was only 13 or 14 when his father died. He and his brother Michael must have carried the responsibility of running the farm for their widowed mother and younger siblings.
Then around 1882 when he was around 22, he, Mary and Michael emigrated to Orange, NJ. It probably was arranged through the church. Patrick became a policeman. Mary worked at the rectory and "took in" all the newly-arrived Irish parishioners. In June 1891 the rest of the family joined them at St. John's. They all lived together in the old victorian at the entrance to the cemetery. Patrick is not listed in the 1910 census. The family story is that he died young. He is buried in the family plot at St. John's in Orange.
