1960.a. 5. juulil tähistas 60-ndat sünnipäeva Long Islandi Eesti küla populaarne mitteametlik “külavanem" leitnant Paul Eck, lastekodu hoone ja rea teiste eestlaste ürituste ja aktsioonide energiline tegelane. P. Eck sündis Narvas 1900. a. ja õppis kohalikus kaubanduskoolis. 1918. a. kevadel ta võttis osa põrandaaluse kaitseliidu organiseerimisest, mille eest ta kommunistide poolt arreteeriti ja koos enam kui 80 teise eestlasega vanglasse paigutati, kust vabanes enamlaste Narvast põgenemisel. Vabadussõjast võttis juubilar vabatahtlikuna osa sõja esimesest päevast alates. Lahingus ülesnäidatud isikliku vahvuse eest annetati temale Eesti Vabadusrist II/3. Õppursõdur P. Eck oli üks nendest 22 koolipoisist, kelle kiire ja otsustav tegutsemine 16. dets. 1918. a. Tallinnas nurja ajas kommunistide mässukatse. Teatavasti kogunes suurem arv kommuniste 16. dets. 1918 ööl Tallinnas Raekoja platsile, kavatsusega vägivallaga võimu üle võtta linnas, mis tegelikult oli ilma sõjaväelise kaitseta. Narva koolipoiste grupp, kes sattus kommunistidele peale, ajas riigipöörajad püssitulega laiali. Kõik 22 õppursõdurit, Paul Eck nende hulgas, said selle eest hiljem riigivanem K. Pätsi käest autasuks Kotkaristi. P. Eck lõpetas Eesti Vabariigi Sõjakooli ratsaväe klassi ja teenis hiljem ohvitserina ratsaväes. 1926. a. ta asus ümber USA-sse. Alates 1933. a. ta oli New Yorgis asutatud eesti sõjaveteranide organisatsioonis juhtivalt tegev. Ta oli ka ülemaailmse Eesti Ühingu üks asutajaid, samuti üks Long Islandi Eesti Küla rajajaid. Paul Ecki relvavennad ja sõbrad soovivad juubilarile paljudeks aastateks samasugust energiat ja õnne.

July 5, 1960. The 60th birthday of the popular unofficial “village elder” of the Estonian village of Long Island, Lieutenant Paul Eck, an energetic figure in the orphanage building and a number of other Estonian events and actions. P. Eck was born in Narva in 1900. and attended a local trade school. 1918 in the spring he took part in the organization of the underground defense union, for which he was arrested by the communists and placed in prison with more than 80 other Estonians, from which he was released when the Bolsheviks fled Narva. The jubilee volunteered for the War of Independence from the first day of the war. He was awarded the Estonian Cross of Freedom II / 3 for his personal strength in battle. Student soldier P. Eck was one of those 22 schoolboys whose quick and decisive action on Dec. 16. 1918, an attempt by the Communists to revolt failed in Tallinn. It is known that a larger number of Communists gathered on the night of December 16, 1918 to Town Hall Square in Tallinn with the intention of forcibly taking power in a city that was in fact without military protection. A group of school boys from Narva who ran into the communists dispersed the rioters with gunfire. All 22 student soldiers, Paul Eck among them, later received the Eagle Cross as an award from Head of State K. Päts. P. Eck graduated from the cavalry class of the Military School of the Republic of Estonia and later served as an officer in the cavalry. 1926 he moved to the United States. Since 1933. he was a leader in the organization of Estonian war veterans founded in New York. He was also one of the founders of the Global Estonian Association, as well as one of the founders of the Estonian Village of Long Island. Paul Eck's brothers-in-arms and friends wish the jubilee the same energy and happiness for many years to come
