About Paul Pitkin
Biographical Summary:
"...Paul Pitkin (1759-1822) married Abigail Lathrop in the New Haven Second Church in New Haven, Connecticut. They had ten children with one son, who died in infancy. They were married in Connecticut where they stayed until about 1791, then moved north to Hartford, Vermont, where they remained for the next several years. People were always looking for new lands to settle. Sometime after 1810 the Pitkin family moved west to Hirum, Portage County, Ohio, not far from Kirtland, Ohio. Portage County is located in northeastern Ohio. It was hear that the Pitkin family was introduced to the teaching of the LDs Church and were the first Pitkins of record to hear of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Their children, Laura, Abigail, and George White Pitkin became members and followed the migration west with the Saints. The rest of the family remained in Ohio. Paul and Abigail Pitkin died and are buried in Garrettsville, Portage, Ohio..."
