About Paul Hubert Root
Paul was a 5th Air Force Division pilot in WWII and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He flew the wounded and dead from Japan to the Philippines, which resulted in his suffering acutely from PTSD before the condition was recognized and no one knew how to help him. It led to the breakup of his first marriage and periodic bouts with severe depression. He and his second wife, Dot, adopted Paula and Amy. Paul flew charter flights for one of the airlines; his plane crashed in a storm in southern Ohio.
