About Pauline Kadow

Birth: Jun. 3, 1846, Poland Death: 1922 Washington, USA

DEATH CLAIMS MRS. F. KADOW, CITY PIONEER

Death, which came to Mrs. Frank Kadow, at her home 1715 Washington Street Tuesday afternoon, removed another of the early day residents of the city, one whose residence here covered a span of 55 years and whose family has been prominently identified with the growth of Manitowoc. Mrs. Kadow’s death was caused by asthma from which she had long been a sufferer. Owing to her advanced years, her condition was serious. Her death was peaceful.

A double tragedy hovers over the Washington street home as Mr. Kadow, who has been critically ill for some time, is reported in serious condition today as result of the shock of the loss of a companion of more than half a century. Mrs. Kadow, nee Pauline Drabinski, was born at Nakel, Poland, June 3, 1846, being 76 years of age at her death. She was married to Mr. Kadow at Nakel on June 11, 1867, and a year later, the young couple came to America, locating in Manitowoc in 1868, and since having made their home here. For many years, Mr. Kadow was engaged in the meat market business, and Mrs. Kadow assisted her husband in the business until their retirement twenty years ago when the business was taken over by their son. During the past twenty years, Mr. and Mrs. Kadow have lived their life quietly, happy in their companionship and that of their children and wide circle of friends. Mrs. Kadow was a home woman and enjoyed nothing so much as to be with her children and friends in her own home.

Mrs. Kadow is survived by her husband and seven children, Mrs. Josephine Czerwinski and Stanley and Max L. Kadow, Milwaukee, George R. of Denver, Wenzel C. and John M. and Adolph C. Kadow of this city. A brother Julius Drabiniski (sic) and a sister Mrs. John Wagner, in Poland, and a sister, Mrs. Jacob Kubal, Milwaukee, also survive, and there are 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kadow will be held Friday morning at 9 from St. Boniface church, the Rev. Pell officiating. Six grandsons of the decedent will be pall bearers, Francis M., Archie, Eugene, John Jr., Norman Kadow and George Czerwinski.
