About Pauline (Polly) Luckovitch

Pauline Prinz-Printz-Prince was born in Lipusz, Poland - a daughter of Anthony Prinz-Printz-Prince and Madalena Kinowska. This family immigrated about 1858. Their journey took at least 77 days at sea. Each passager had a space of 3X3 based on the size of the ship and not the total number of passengers: 136. This Prince family settled in the Madawaska Valley - Opeongo Settlement. One of the first Polish Settlers in this area. They attended an English speaking Catholic Church in Brudenele/Our Lady of Angels. The Church was a powerful agent of socialization, one that created and bolstered historical memories of their ethnic background. Early pioneer families along the Opeongo Road had a very difficult time. Clearing the land for a simple leanto/shanty to live in - buildiing outbuildings for livestock and clearing the land for crops. These ancestors immigrated from partitioned Poland - they were illiterate and poor. Yet they made the best of their situation and farmed their land. Polly married Antwine Luckasawitch another Old Pioneer Family at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Brudenell. 16 children are know to this union: Joseph - Martin - Antwine - Nicholas - Francois - Marianne - Madeline - Josephine - Anthony - Ignatz/Angus and Michael. Polly died giving birth to triplets - she and her babies all died and it is assumed that they are buried here where she was married - also where her parents are buried.
