Peder Pederson Bergeland
Birth: Apr. 26, 1826, Norway
Death: Apr. 20, 1904 Lac qui Parle County Minnesota, USA
Peter was born Peter Peterson on April 26, 1826 in Kinsalvagg [Kinservik?], near Oslo [Bergen], Norway. Believe their marriage to be in 1849 in Norway and eight children born to them.
Peter and Sirie came to America abt 1865 when her father died. They arrived in Wisconsin, then Minnesota, then Iowa where they lived till Serena's death in 1973. Upon arrival in America, Peter, as was the Scandinavian custom, changed his last name from Peterson to Bergeland.
His children as they grew took on different last names also. Anna married a Jacobson, Peter Jr kept Peterson, Ole took on the last name of Bergeland, Caroline married Peter Valvatne (spelled later Walvatne), Andreas (known as Andrew) took on Bergeland, Enoch took on the name of Peterson, Joakim (known as Jay) took on the name of Peterson and infant was Bergeland.
He married Kari Hanson in 1874 and [had] eight more children before his death 1904. I can't find too much of this except a 1900 Census that has him and her with their children and marriage date which is after Sirie's death by one year, but they did wait too long after one spouse died to marry again. But that would of been a lot of children to care for, when Peter and Sirie already had seven living children and the census shows 4 more children.
