About Peder Hansen Gresli
Born in 1701 in Tydal, Norway. Peder Hansen died in Tydal, Norway in 1777; he was 76. Occupation: Klokker (Parish Clerk/Bell Ringer) 1719-1769.
The references indicated he was a Klokker. A Klokker was/is a parish priest/assistant. Peder conducted a census 3 Nov. 1762 of the Tydal area and it has been a great help in researching families in this area. About his family he wrote, ÒPeder Hansen; Beret Olsdatter, (Wife); Children: Ole Pedersen; (Wife) Ingeborg Ingebrigsdatter; Hans Pedersen; (Wife) Anelisbet Johannesdatter; Beret Pedersdatter. Ó
Peder was a well known and esteemed man. From this time up to present the men have been named Hans or Peder every other generation. The farm has also been called ÒKlokker farm. Ó Klokker is a title for the ministers assistant. Peder Hansen was the Tydal Parish Klokker for over 50 years and one of his sons was also a Klokker. It has been thought that Hans Ingebrigtsen was a Klokker but that cannot be proven.
It appears that Peder was so well loved that his name was carried from father to son from 1701 to 1897, and is probably still going on but since the records do not record past 1897 this cannot be confirmed from this source.
