About Peg D. Sellers (Marks)
PEG SELLERS
Original Name: Agnes Marks
Birth: 1892

Agnes Marks, the mother of Peter Sellers, was born in Hackney in North London, the daughter of Solomon Marks and his wife, Welcome Mendoza. She was the great-granddaughter of Daniel Mendoza (1764-1836), the famous boxer. When Solomon died, Welcome used his legacy to form a touring variety company, in which she appeared under the name Belle Ray. (bio by: Iain MacFarlaine)
