When her husband, Joseph, died in 1761 at Point Coupee, Perrine's oldest son was only 16. She took her young family and together with the help of 19 slaves, she ran the homestead until the children were adults and married. Perrine then filed a Succession of the Homestead, sold all the slaves, and then she married Francois Marcantel, a longtime friend and neighbor who was also a widower. Perrine had cared for the homestead for 19 years as a widow.
