About Perrine de Clérembault, Dame de Richelieu

Perrine DE CLÉREMBAULT. . She was the sister and heiress to Louis de Clérembault seigneur de Richelieu et de Beçay, and daughter of Jean II de Clérembault, (Birth: about 1335 Death: before 1380), seigneur de Richelieu. In 1429 the de Clérembault family had taken advantage of the presence of King Charl (Charles) VII at nearby Chinon to gain permission to fortify their family residence, Chateau de Richelieu - this could not be done without his agreement. The King was happy to give his consent. In 1451 Jean de Clérembault gave the estate of Richelieu to Louis, his son. Geoffroy du Plessis settled with his wife at his castle on the bank of the River Gartempe. In 1488, Louis de Clérembault, Lord of Richelieu, knowing that his death was imminent and having no heir, made his nephew Geoffroy du Plessis, “his main and executory heir, only and for all”. The du Plessis family became the Lords of the Manor of Richelieu, and took the name of du Plessis de Richelieu.
