Obituary
[From the Waco (Texas) Register]
Death, that knocks with equal force at the palace and the cottage door, has shocked this entire community, and clad all hearts in mourning by suddenly calling from earth one of our most useful young men, PERRY GRANVILLE STEINBECK, who departed this life, of pneumonia, on the 22nd inst., aged 37 years, 9 months and 13(15?) days.

Mr. P.G. Steinbeck was a native of Lewis county, West Virginia; he came to Fannin county, Texas, some 12 years ago; where he resided until after the late war. In the fall of 1865 he became a citizen of this county: he came into our midst with no capital except a will and energy that regarded no obstacle too great to be overcome, and success seemed to crown his efforts. In business he was prompt, energetic and houorable(sic); as a friend he was warmhearted, faithful and true: as a brother, he was affectionate and kind; in a word, in all the relations of life he discharged his duties well, and his death is a public calamity. While his aged parents, who now reside in Lewis county, West Virginia, and his two brothers, who reside in this county, mourn the loss of a dutiful son and an affectionate brother--we mourn a kind, true and useful friend and member of society.

Sweet be thy sleep, kind friend, we can but drop the tear of friendship upon thy grave, and cherish ty(sic) memory until we meet thee where sickness and sorrows end.
