About Peter Branch
Biography
Peter Branch married Hannah Lincoln about 1682 probably in Taunton.[1] Hannah was born on 13 or 15 March 1663 in Taunton, (then) Plymouth Colony, the daughter of Thomas[2] and Mary (Austin) Lincoln.
Peter Branch was among the petitioners for the establishment of a new town at Preston, Connecticut in 1686, and it is here that all of their children were born.[1]
Peter Branch of Preston, Connecticut sold land on 5 November1696 in Taunton, Bristol, Province of Massachusetts Bay to Nicholas Moorey of Taunton. The land had been received by his wife Hannah as a gift from her father Thomas Lincoln, by deed of gift dated 04 May 1694 "given to Hannah my wife by her father Thomas Linkon dec'd". The wording of the deed makes it clear that Hannah was alive on 05 November 1696. The deed was acknowledged by Peter Branch at Taunton on 05 November 1699, and recorded on 14 January 1699/1700. [3]
Peter died in Preston on 27 December 1713. [1] Peter's estate settlement, dated 13 March 1714/5, named his children as Mary, age 28; Hannah, 27; Elizabeth, 23; John, 21; Peter, 19; Thomas, 16; Samuel, 14; Sarah, 10; and Joseph, 7.[1]

Peter ye sonne of John Branch was borne ye 28 of may 1659. (Marshfield Mass VR First volume pg 5). 1685 moved to Norwich CT and bought BRANCH HILL property of Owaneco, Sachem (leader) of the Mohegan Indians, son of the famous Indian Mohegan chief, Uncas, by deed, dated December 10, 1683. known as “skunk hung amuck hill.” The original deed at one time was in possession of the R. Branch Follett family of Hartford. The title to these lands was held by two rival claimants, the Colony of Connecticut under the Charter, and the Mohegan Indians, the original owners of the soil. ...Whenever a farm was granted in Mohegan country by the General Court, it was considered wise to also obtain a grant from the Mohegans. 1686 October Peter BRANCH was one of the signers of the petition for incorporation of Preston. He was on the committee that invited Rev. Solomon Treat to settle as minister in the town. In 1935: The frame of the second house built by the Branch family in Preston, Connecticut was re-covered some sixty years ago and is still used as a habitation, having been built 150 years ago.(photo of house with Branch Hill in background, pg 47) 1998 Although the Branch home on Branch Hill is no longer a landmark, there is still a Branch Road near Preston, and the road became State Hwy 165 about 1937.
