About Peter Carlson
Peter walked from the Carlson farm at Carlisle Township to Alexandra Minnesota (approximately 50 miles away) and back for supplies on many occasions. Later he acquired a team of Oxen, making the trip easier. Soon after, the railroad was extended from Alexandria on to Fergus Falls, Carlisle, and Rothsay and that trip was no longer needed.
Peter's first wife Anna died in 1877 while Peter was homesteading at the Carlisle farm, and while the Dugout was still the only housing available on the farm. Peter married Martha Carlson shortly after that: Martha passed away March 15, 1899 at the Carlisle Farm. Later, after moving to LaGrand Township, Douglas County, near Alexandria, Peter married a third time, this time to Anna Catherine (AKA Anna K.)
