He ran a tavern on the corner of Spring and Water Streets in Morristown; this was the site of Benedict Arnold's trial.
Inscription "Member of the First Provincial Congress of N. J. in the year 1775, afterwards Captain of the 2nd Co, 3rd Regt. of the Jersey Brigade of the Revolutionary Army. He was born in Southold, Long Island in the year 1724, removed to Morris County, New Jersey with three brothers Thomas, Joshua, and Daniel, and a sister Elizabeth about the year 1745. Died in the 56th year of his age."
