Evidence from the National Records of Scotland

9 December 1613 and 2 and 7 January 1614: Contract of vendition between Peter Hay of Megginch, Isabel Cheyne, relict of deceased Patrick Hay of Megginch, father to the said Peter, Patrick Hay of Pitfour, eldest son of the deceased Patrick and Isabel Cheyne, and Isabel with consent of George Hay, brother to Francis, Earl of Erroll now her spouse, on the one part and Robert Graham, burgess of Montrose on the other part, mentioning that the deceased William, Lord Ruthven and Dirleton by his charter dated 6 Nov 1571 had disponed in favour of Dame Helen Bruce, Countess of Erroll an annualrent of 200 merks out of the lands and barony of Cowgask, and by another charter dated 11 May 1573 had disponed to her another annualrent of 60 bolls meal out of the said lands, both to be held of the King; and that the two annualrents had been disponed by the Countess to the deceased Patrick Hay of Megginch, and that Peter Hay, now of Megginch as heir to his father had disponed to the said Isabel in liferent and to Patrick Hay of Pitfour, her son, in fee, and that the said Robert had paid a certain sum as the avail of the annualrents to George Hay and Isabel Cheyne, therefore they all, with one consent for their respective interests, dispone the said two annualrents to the said Robert and assign to him a gift of nonentry of the said annualrents.
