He migrated from Prussia to the Chortitza Colony in 1789 (P. Rempel, p. 6). In the 1793 Chortitza Colony Heads of Households list he is listed in Chortitza (B. H. Unruh, p. 210). In the 1795 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Chortitza #19 (B. H. Unruh, p. 237). 1798 he was placed under the ban of the church with his brother Jacob on the grounds they had pursued their own dealings to the detriment of the community. He was brought to trial by the Russian government in 1799 or 1800. He was fined and was sentenced to one year in prison, but he served only several months before he was pardoned in Apr 1801. He isn't listed in the 1801 Chortitza Colony Census or in subsequent Chortitza Colony censuses.
