Peter J. Mauel, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nathon Haessly at Theresa, Monday morning, aged 81 years, after an illness of one year’s duration.
Mr. Mauel was one of the pioneer settlers of the town of Ashford, coming to said town in his early youth. He held the office of town clerk for twenty years, during which time he did able service for the people and become a friend of everyone in the community.
Three years ago he sold his farm and since then with his wife lived a retired life in the village of Theresa.
Besides his wife the deceased is survived by five sons and three daughters.
The funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o’clock from St. Martin’s Catholic church at Ashford, the Rev. Fr. Tuller officiating. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery.
