About Peter Jørgen Tover
Jim Willhite: Peter Jørgen (Leffle) Oleson Tover was a fisherman, carpenter and grocer. He was born on 7 Aug 1877 at Tåvær, Tjøtta, Nordland, NOR. He appeared on the census of 1900 at Tåvær, Tjøtta, Nordland, NOR. Peter emigrated to the USA three times, 1901, 1907 and 1914. He married Ida Martine Tobiasdatter/Ringastat on 28 Feb 1913 at Tacoma, WA and they had four children. He appeared on the census of 1920 at Astoria, Clatsop Co, OR. He died on 1 Jan 1956 at Seattle, King Co, WA at age 78 from Leukemia.
From "The Story of Norwegian Islanders in the Columbia River", by Rita Johansen.... Petter, the oldest brother, had lived in Tacoma and Astoria for almost twenty years, working as a carpenter and a fisherman... overwhelmed by homesickness, Petter, Ida, and their sons Obert and Telmer returned to Tåvær, supposedly for good. After one year their longing for America was just as strong as their longing for home had been. Petter and his family were now established in a new house on Puget Island and he had opened a store. The family had lost two children. Their first-born died at birth, and Telmer, the youngest, drowned when he was 7 years old.
