Peter was born in Connecticut, USA in 1723 and moved to Nova Scotia in the early 1760's. During the time period, many New England Planters went to Nova Scotia to take up lands left vacant following the French and Indian War. He lived there for the remainder of his life.

(Notes: Peter Pineo was known as "Old Chunk", which appears to have been a reflection on his short physical stature. He was also a practical joker which was also a family trait.

The first effective grant of land given in the Township of Cornwallis, N S was given July 21, 1761. The second grant given December 31, 1764, consisted of 38,917 acres, of which Peter Pineo received one share, one share being 666 acres.

The Kings Co settler owned 2000 acres of farmland, was a keeper of a public house and stage station, a reputable occupation.

In 1793 , he was 1st Lieut of the 1st Regiment in Kings Co.)---From: Shirley Pineo.

In 1763, Peter and Elizabeth (Sampson) Pineo removed to Cornwallis, NS, drawn by the large land grants offered by the British government to those who would settle in the county which the unfortunate Acadians had been forced to vacate ["Maine, A History," p. 295].
