1900 Census lists him as: Paul Andreas Lokkert Johnsen. The Lokkert appears to have come down from BOTH sides of his ancestry.
1) His maternal grandfather was Anders Lockert Madsen Grønbech. I have no idea how Lockert appeared in Anders name
2) His father, Johan Enoksen, had a sister Jacobia married to Mikkel Paulsen and Mikkel's mother was from another line (Ermegård Lockert Mikkelsdatter Sandberg)
Petter is remembered for his large family. He used to carry fish in a backpack over the mountains to feed his large brood. I know of two wives.
After WWII, Petter came to the U.S. He was met in Minneapolis, MN by his daughter Thelma who had come out from Seattle. At this time, he was reported not to be feeling well. My grandfather Anton was in Minneapolis at this time but I don't know if they met. My father Norman, who was in Minneapolis at the same time, never said anything about meeting his grandfather.
Many of his 13 children (all were using Lockert as their last name) were living in the Seattle, WA area (the famous Scandinavian district: Ballard). The story I heard is that due to the scarcity of food in Norway during the war, the rich food in America was too much for his system. He died in Seattle about a year after coming to the U.S.
May we all die after eating too much good food and not for the lack of it.
