About Philip Alley
PHILIP ALLEY, was fined at the December 30, 1645, Salem Quarterly Court for being overtaken with drink as witnessed by Mr. William Walton and Robert Dyar. Thomas Dyar had said Alley had not drank much but Mr. Walton called his attention to it, and he had left Alley at his "Freaks" but when he sent his men, Alley was upon the ground. Samuel Carwithen and Thomas Sams asked to be paid for their corning from Marblehead to appear as witnesses for Alley. Since the court deposition mentions the word "fleaks" (flakes) he was probably a fisherman. Savage thinks this Philip may have died at Boston in 1655, and on December 7 of that year, his widow and adrninistrix, Susanna, married William Pitt. (QC E, 1:90; Savage, 1:39; EA, 5:121)
