Slab Creek Settled

Phillip Cox married Miss Christiana Stille, and was the father of Col.

Daniel, the Ritchie county pioneer, and of nine other children; viz., Isaac

P.; John, of Ohio; David S., Hannah, Phillip, Huldah, who became Mrs.

Hezekiah D. Tharpe, and went to Iowa; Sarah, who was Mrs. Timothy Tharpe, of

Auburn; James S., and Levi, who sleeps in Doddridge county. All the Coxes in

this and adjoining counties came from this family. Phillip and his wife

Christiana died at the home of their son, Col. Daniel V. Cox, on Slab

creek,and here they sleep. He was born in 1760, and died in 1854. She died

in 1856 at the age of ninety-two years.

Phillip Cox (703) was born about 1763 in Somerset Co., NJ, died 29 Oct. 1854 in Pullman, Ritchie Co., WV, and was buried in Cox Cem., Slab Creek, Ritchie Co., WV. He married Christiana Stelle in 1786 in NJ. She was born in Feb. 1771 in Piscataway, NJ, and died 6 March 1856 in Pullman, WV. He served in the Rev. War and had pension record 18360. Their first 3 children were born in NJ, the next in Washington Co., PA, and the next 5 in Harrison Co., WV. (R‑71)
