Emma died 1 November 1889 at the residence of her brother-in-law, Philip DOWDLE who was married to her sister Maria Louisa DOWDLE (born MORGAN). Philip was an attorney (later of Molteno, Cape Colony) who also served on the British side during the Anglo Boer War (his parents were Patrick DOWDLE and Mary MILGATE).
