About Philip Friedel

Philip appeared as the third and youngest child of Nathaniel Friedel on the family tree constructed and maintained for decades by Philip's grandson Philip Jacobson (1918-2015). This tree was passed down to Wendy (Aronstein) Wirths and then to George and Barbara Friedel, and it was the base I used to input information for Philip and his many descendants here on geni.

According to the tree, Philip was born in Russia. He married Rose Frankel on June 7, 1895 at 20 Market Place, Baltimore.

I later obtained his death certificate, which gave his date of birth as July 18, 1874 in Russia and also indicated that he was a salesman. It gave his father's name as Nathaniel Friedel and mother's maiden name as Ester Zurif, both born in Russia. It gave his address at this time (1912) as 108 N. Pine St in Baltimore and indicated that he'd lived there for 20 years. This information had been provided by his brother Meyer (Mayer) Friedel.

They had 5 children: Lillian (Friedel) Jacobson, Samuel Nathaniel Friedel, Irvin Friedel, Sadie (Friedel) Rice, and Gertrude (Friedel) Justman. Samuel went on to become a congressman and represented Maryland's 7th District from 1953 to 1971.

Philip is buried in Knesseth Anshe Kolk Wolyn Cemetery in Baltimore in Section B, Row 1, Plot 40.
