  • Sybil Noyes, "Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire." Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore, 1972. p. 430. "Philip, Casco Bay, about 37 years old in 1683, living for some time on Hog Island as ten. of Tyng, as test. by Elizabeth (Mitton) Clark (person #52 under Mitton entry in this book). He and his wife, name unknown, may have been victims of the 2nd Indian war. Their children identified by a deed, 1701, conv. their father's Casco Bay property, were possibly brought up in Salem. Lists 30, 223b, 227. Children: PRISCILLA, married in Salem 14 May 1691 Henry Kinney, died before 1714 when he married Mary Curtis of Topsfield. ELIZABETH, married before 1701 John Hogg, mariner, of Boston. MERCY, b. about 1675, living as a child in the family of Rev. George Burroughs and in 1692, when she was a dramatic leader of the 'afflicted' girls in the witchcraft trials, was a servant in the home of Thomas Putnam of Salem Village. After the delusion subsided she went to Greenland, where her aunt Mary (Lewis) Lewis, wife of Jotham (person #10 under Lewis entry in this book) was living, and in 1695, at the home of Abraham Lewis (person #1 under Lewis entry in this book) she had a bastard child, James Darling, husband of her aunt Hannah, being her bondsman. Her aunt Mary, +-43, and Charles Allen jr. +-24, test. for her, and she was Mercy Allen of Boston in 1701, it is probable that Allen was the child's father and married her. MARY, unmarried in Salem in 1701."
