MR. PHILIP MARGOLYES (Glasgow)

The Rev. M, S. SIMMONS writes:

By the death of Mr. Philip Margolyes the Glasgow Jewish Community has lost one of its pillars. For some forty years' he brought lustre to the Jewish name. His commercial integrity, his courteousness and kindling brought him a vast host of friends, Jewish and non-Jewish, some of whom travelled from various parts of England to be present at his funeral. The deceased was one of the founders of my Synagogue at Pollokshields, and served as one of its Wardens from its inception until two years ago. When failing health laid him aside. He gave gifts to the Synagogue and its school, but most of all he gave his heart-promptings. He was a man with a vision of the beautiful, the good and the true, and he tried to work this vision into the Synagogue and beyond.
