According to his 1908 divorce papers, Philip James MORGENROOD engaged in an extra-marital affair with his housekeeper, Hendrika Magdalena Marthina "Henrietta" BARNARD, whilst he was married to Diedrika Johanna HATTINGH. The latter was the mother of his son Gordon Quinton MORGENROOD, born 1892.
BARNARD, who was almost 25 years younger than MORGENROOD, apparently bore MORGENROOD two children out of wedlock:.
Philstea Henrietta MORGENROOD, born 1905 and Albert Raymond MORGENROOD, born 1908
Diedrika Johanna HATTINGH eventually sued MORGENROOD for a divorce on the grounds of adultery in 1908. The divorce was granted on 10 August 1909. HATTINGH retained custody over her only child with MORGENROOD, namely Gordon Quinton MORGENROOD.
