Who am I? Sr Betty Conway owner of the Legacy 9 files which includes converted McCabe files by Frank McCabe.
Margaret McGarvey Conway was my Mother b. 1897 I remember she was the eldest in the family and hence a great supporter of her Mother. I remember her saying that in her family two died young. Not so sure I have a correct memory of their names.Rose Therese and Philomena are in my mind.
I understand that the young ones did not enjoy the outings , the news etc that the girls Margaret, Cassie, Veronica enjoyed and I think these were the girls who worked with their Mother in the Coats and Clark Cotton Mills in Paisley.
I am sure there were two boys Frank and Jim . I was at Jim's funeral in Glasgow?
I was at home when my Mother received the news of the death of Frank. She could not make sense of the telegram. It read "Frank died while receiving Buoy" Later it was revealed that Frank died while rescuing a boy. A group of boys were also on the River Dee and one Lost his coat in the water. He got out and swam after it. Frank, in a near by boat said "He'll never make it and swam and brought the boy to shore where Frank got a cramp - was swept back into the swiftly running Dee and drowned . This was a great blow to Mary Anne for , deprived of security all her life, thought always that when Frank finished his exams in the Air Ministry he would be well able to look after his Mother.
