About Phineas HaLevi Phillips
Phineas Halevi Phillips married Esther Samuel, daughter of Samuel Samuel.
Phineas settled in England from Germany in 1775. He lived at Little Tulse Street, Goodman's Fields, London. He was the son of Jonas Phillips who died in London in 1794.
Esther died at Krotoschin in 1822.
Phineas regularly attended the great fairs in Germany, periodically travelling to England before settling there. He carried on an extensive business in gums and indigo and was held in high esteem by the reigning prince.
He was always provided with a special inschutzbrief (Letter of Protection) on his journeys throughout Germany. On one occasion, favouring the horticultural tastes of the prince, the Jewish merchant brought him a collection of Dutch bulbs, which the latter appreciated throughout his life.
Phineas held the post of Chief of the Jewish community of Krotoschin. He was the Progenitor of the Phillips Family London (see Branch 11).
