AMOS KNAPP, son of D-67. John and __ (Taylor) Knapp. B. ca. 1630/40, Danbury, Conn. M. Ca 1754, __ Nelson.
E-223. Amos was a drummer in the Militia when Danbury was burned by the British, Some of the British soldiers drew water from the well and drank from a dish furnished them by his wife, but did not enter the house nor in any way disturb the family, and the Knapp dwelling was the only one left standing in that part of Danbury. All sons, like himself, were of great muscular power and vitality and most of them reached an advanced age. Danbury Probate Record says "Jenney Nelson, a minor, chose as her guardian, June 28, 1771, her brotherin-law, Amos Knapp, of Danbury." Amos deeded land in Danbury Mch. 10, 1790. He was not on the tax list in Danbury in 1793. He was appointed guardian of John and Mary, children of John (E-217) of Danbury. Settled a few miles west of Lebanon Springs, N.Y. soon after the war.

Notes
DAR shows Amos’ birth 1740 DANBURY FAIRFIELD CO CONNECTICUT. There’s an unsourced date of February 28, 1739 from trees, but the "The Knapp Family in America" by Arthur Mason Knapp. Page 89 (attached) has his dates as:
[they surely meant to print 1730/40 and 1785/6]
