About Phoebe Olmstead

Thomas Barlow's (1620-1658) parents were George Barlow (born about 1583) and Anne Howe (born about 1590) and they were married in 1606 at Manchester, Lancashire, England. Thomas Barlow (1620-1658) was born and raised in England.

Thomas Barlow (1620-1658) probably immigrated from England to New England in about 1640. He was probably first at Boston, MA and then went on to settle in Fairfield, CT. In about 1650 at Fairfield, CT Thomas Barlow (1620-1658) married a widow named Rose Sherwood (1620-1699) and they had 3 children there. On 03 December 1653 Fairfield, CT granted Thomas Barlow 6 acres of land on the northwest corner of Frost Square. He had also purchased a homelot from father-in-law Thomas Sherwood. Thomas Barlow went on to become quite a large landowner. Thomas Barlow died in the autumn of 1658 between when his will was written on 08 September 1658 and when it was proved on 20 October 1658.

Rose Sherwood (1620-1699) was married 3 times. First she married Thomas Rumble in about 1641 and they had daughter Bethia Rumble born in 1641. After Thomas Rumble died in 1649, widow Rose Sherwood Rumble married second to Thomas Barlow (1620-1658) in about 1650 and they had 3 children at Fairfield, CT. After Thomas Barlow (1620-1658) died in 1658, widow Rose Sherwood Rumble Barlow married third to Edward Nash (widower of Hannah with whom he had 2 children) in 1658 and they did not have children together. Rose Sherwood's daughter (with Thomas Barlow) Mary Barlow married Edward Nash's son (with Hannah) John Nash in 1684.

Daughter Phebe Barlow (1651-1731) married at Fairfield, CT in 1673 to James Olmsted (1647-1731) and they settled at Norwalk, CT and had 5 children there. In 1673, the year that she married, Phebe Barlow Olmsted receipted land she had inherited from her father to her mother and her mother's third husband Edward Nash and Phebe Barlow Olmsted's sisters Deborah Barlow (born about 1652) and Mary Barlow (born about 1653) [younger, not yet married] were among the witnesses.
