About Phoebe Ann Veazey
This gal was a doozie! She looks pretty fierce to me. She was first married to Edward Veazey by whom she had numerous (count 'em) children. After he died, she didn't want to lose his pension so, while running a boarding house, she continued at least one relationship producing some more children whom she named Veasey (w/ an "s"). A curious touch since a Veazey or Veasey had no say in the matter! Regardless...that is all I have heard...take it for what you will. She died in 1926...my grandfather would have been 28 and presumably knew her but he never spoke of her. (Bummer!)

Petition for widow's pension in 1892 declares that she was not married after the death of her husband. She was a live-in housekeeper.
Additional information from Bobby Veazey - Bobby Veazey has a copy of Annie's application for a Civil War pension, wherein she claims she never re-married. According to Aunt Bert, Annie was a mid-wife.
