About Pierce Morton, M.A.
Admitted to Trinity at Cambridge (17yrs) October 13, 1820; school, Ottery St. Mary, Devon. Matric. Michs. 1820; Scholar 1824; B.A. (6th Wrangler) 1825; M.A. 1829. JP Cavan and Meath; D.L (Deputy Lieutanant) for Cavan. Appointed Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, also a Fellow of Kings College, Kings College, Windsor, Nova Scotia. Left Nova Scotia (suddenly) in 1826--so he was a professor before receiving a M.A.?--bequeathing many books and scientific instruments to the college. Author of "Geometry: Plane, Solid, and Spherical, in Six Books: To Which is Added in an Appendix, the Theory of Proportion" pub. 1830. (Available in paperback from Amazon for $33.25) Taught/tutored in Havre, France--4 children born in France. Source: Wikipedia--"Pierce Morton + Cambridge" or "Pierce Morton + mathematics" His children--Arthur P. Morton, Pierce Edw. Morton, and Frances--were living in Wales in 1841, wards of Wm. Griffiths in Anglesey, Holyhead. According to his son PEM, Pierce died and was buried in Cape Town, S.Africa.
