About Pierre Morisset

Pierre is born January 5, 1676, in Ste-Famille de l'Ile d'Orleans. At the age of 23, he marries Catherine Letourneau, age 19, the 24 November, 1698 in Ste-Famille de l'Ile d'Orleans. They establish themselves in Pointe-aux-Bouleau, Sainte-Croix de Lotbiniere where they raised their children. They may have been known each other from Pierre's uncle, Robert Choret, who had bought the fief of Pointe aux Birch. On January 2, 1708, the Lord Choret concedes to his nephew five acres by forty of frontal land between Jean Francois Grenier and Jean Lemay.

Nine months after his marriage, Pierre loses his father, the grandfather Jean Moricet died at Ile d'Orleans, then a month later, his wife Catherine, gives birth to a daughter, Marie-Catherine, the couple's first child.

It's been 12 years now since their marriage, and with several mouths to nourish, Pierre doubles his land by buying the adjoining property of Jean Lemay, the 15 of June 1712. Their property no consists of 8 acres of frontal land by 40 acres deep. It is on this land, that Pierre and Catherine raise a beautiful family of eleven children.

Pierre Morisset died November 22, 1731, at the age of 50 years and 10 months old. Only two of his children are married at the time of his death, Marie-Cahterine and Marie-Angelique. Catherine is widowed at the age of 52 years old and still has 9 children to feed at home.

The year 1733 is a memorable one for the family. There will be three marriages: Marie-Elizabeth in January, Pierre in April, Nicolas in July. In addition to these events, two unfortunate events happen. Nicolas dies after only three and half months of his marriage at the age of twenty-six. A month following, his sister Angelique, dies at the age of 27. Catherine, the mother, lost two of her children in a month. During her life, she sees at least six of her children die. Very hard trial for a mother.

Catherine Letouneau died November 29, 1761, in Ste. Croix. She was 82 years old. We do not find the baptism certificate of Marie-Joseph, but her name appears in the inventory, after the death of the father. Strangely, Pierre Morisset and Catherine Letourneau name two of their children Pierre, the first, at the age of 14, sponsors the second for his baptism. They married and their wives were both called Marie-Anne Demers. They are aunt and niece. The two couples live in Ste. Croix. Now which children belong to which couple?
