Brief overview:

Pieter (51), a Bronkhorstpruit farmer, from farm Bleskopfontein, was found by a neighbour, beaten and shot dead in a stream on his farm, on 1st April 2002.

He was hit with an iron pipe from behind and shot in the stomach, and then executed with a shot to the head. His wife Martina (Martie) (46) was attacked with a panga, but managed to escape and went to look for help. She was taken to Bronkhorstspruit Hospital, where a spokesperson said she had sustained several bruises and was being treated for shock.

Their daughter, Bernice van der Walt, said the men dragged her mother-in-law, held a panga against her neck and threatened to kill her.

Captain Tom Janse van Rensburg, head of detectives at Bronkhorstspruit, said four supposed farmworkers overpowered Olivier at his bakkie. He was murdered while loading crates of tomatoes onto the bakkie. "They stripped him naked, tied his legs and dragged him to a nearby stream," he said. Two suspects were arrested about eight hours later.
