Jacobus van ZIJL, gedoop op 10-04-1735 te Prins Albert, Cape Province (SA), seun van Johannes van ZIJL (kyk V.11) en Catharina van EEDEN.

Jacobus wordt gezien als de ontdekker van de Kango-grot. De eerste zaal van de grot na de entree heet naar hem: de Van Zyl´s Hal. In 1780 werd hij, samen met Barend Oppel, door Klaas Windvogel opgehaald, die -op zoek naar een bokkie- de ingang ontdekte. Beide mannen lieten Jacob van Zyl -met een kandelaar in de hand- aan een touw langs een steile wand in de grond afdalen.
