Polly Hoff

m. 9 Jan., 1876, Liberty Center, Iowa.

Polly was the daughter of Enoch (Jr.) and Martha (Fry) Matson.

On the 1860 census, Polly was living with her parents and four younger siblings in Squaw Township of Warren County, Iowa. She was enumerated as an Ohio-born ten-year-old white female.

Ten years later, the family was living in Liberty Township in Warren County, Iowa. At the time of the census, Polly was a 19-year-old.

At her parents' residence in Liberty Center, Warren County, Iowa, Polly became the second wife of Amos Hoff on 9 January 1876. Six children were born to them; Cecil Clarence, Pliny Brewster, Maidie Martha, Eltie Maria, Olive Ann and Amos Wiley Hoff.

Amos and Polly were living in Dallas County, Iowa in Grant Township. Others in the household were their three oldest children (Clarence, Jennie [enumerator's error; this child was Pliny] and Madie) and two of Polly's younger siblings (Mahala and James Matson).

At some point, Amos and Polly moved to Nebraska where they were living in 1885. The family moved to Norton County, Kansas in 1893 and were enumerated on the 1900 census residing in Highland Township. Amos and Polly had been married for 24 years and all six of the children born to them were living and listed in the household.

On the 1905 Kansas state census, "Pollie" was a 55-year-old white female living in Lenora, Norton County, Kansas with her 71-year-old husband, Amos, and 24-year-old daughter, Elta. They had all come to Kansas from Nebraska. A short year later, Amos passed away.

As a 59-year-old widowed white female, Polly was the head of household on the 1910 census when her son "Wiley A." and his wife, Mabel" were living with her in Lenora, Kansas. Five years later, on the 1915 Kansas state census, Polly was living alone as a 64-year-old white female.

Polly was living with her son Amos and his family in Jacksonville, Florida on the 1930 census. At that time, she was 79 years old.

Polly passed away on 17 December 1944 in Alhambra, California. Her body was returned to Lenora, Kansas for burial beside her husband.
