About Prior Alexander Campbell of Ardchattan
Alexander Campbell was born to Lady Mary of Marischal Keith and John Campbell in 1577 Ardchattan, Argyll, Scotland.
Though a layman, he was nonetheless the Parson of Parson of Kilninver. Blessing 1580 Ardchattan, Argyll, Scotland “John, Bishop of the Isles, gave his son the Priory of Ardchattan.”

Patrick MacArthur the servitor of Prior Alexander Campbell of Ardchattan signed on for service in the Royal Scots Brigade ("Hepburn's Brigade") raised by Charles I Stuart to serve Louis XIII and Richelieu in the Thirty Years War.

The Prior of Ardchattan (later Commendator of Ardchattan) was the head of the Valliscaulian, and then Cistercian, monastic community of Ardchattan Priory, Argyll. It was founded in 1230 by Duncan MacDougal, Lord of Argyll. In April 1510 it was incorporated as a cell of Beauly Priory. It was annexed to the bishopric of the Isles in 1615.
