Little is known of William Joseph Forkner / Faulkner Jr.'s mother other than that she was named Priscilla Lewis and that she was born in the 1730s in Prince George's County, Maryland. She was a daughter of John Lewis, (1683-1757) and his wife Winifred (aka Winiford) Thomas (1714-1791), in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Priscilla named one of her sons John and a daughter Winifred, after her parents.

Priscilla Lewis married William J. Forkner / Faulkner, Sr., in 1750 in Albemarle County, Virginia. They lived in Albemarle County for several years. In 1760 they moved to NC, first near to Emmanuel Faulkner, William's brother, then settling in Rowan County. They lived there for about the next 12 years. She raised six of their nine children (7 sons; 2 daughters) there. In about 1771, when Rowan county split and their land was assigned to Surry County NC, the family moved a few miles north into Virginia. In 1785 William J. Faulkner was noted as owning 178 acres in Patrick County, Virginia, 3 miles from the North Carolina border near Carters Mill on Fall Creek. In fact, one of his sons sold the Carters the land for whom the village is named.[1]

Priscilla Lewis Faulkner / Forkner died around 1800, most likely in Virginia. Her husband survived her; dying in 1807, in Surry Co., North Carolina, at his son's home on Forkner Creek.
